Hair Loss in Staffords I

Just recently our male dog Troy has developed allergic reaction to a dried dog food called Doctor Johns Well put it this way he came up in loads of hives under his belly and round his genitals and his bum hole. It was so bad we had to take him straight down the vets, and they was the ones that told us that he’s had a allergic reaction to something. We was advised to wash him down in anti fungal shampoo that don’t come cheep, Then we thought it might be the carpets & the dust ect ect. Well that didn’t work and we are now in to 3 weeks with this. So he was back down the vets again !. This is when our vet told us to change he’s food that’s Wheat & Gluten Free. He’s now been on this new food for 4 weeks now ( Along with all our dogs ) and the change is unbelievable, his and all our dogs coats are smooth there poo is manageable, and just seem to be more active. The people that we get our food from are called Oscar’s & the food is called Maize, Fish, and Potato. For active, Junior and Adult Dogs. They come round to your house and tell you what’s in all the foods that are on the market, and you will be Surprised what your dog is eating !!!. The amount of meat in this dried food is nun, in some case’s, they just might as well be vegetarians. The food is all measured out with a beaker & it just goes with the weight of your dogs. Now the price is not cheep we pay £29.00 to £30.00 a bag, but if you’ve only got one dog that will last you a good month, where as we do a bag a week. Here is Oscar’s phone number 0800-195-8000 and website www.oscars.co.uk See if theres a suppler near you, they deliver to your door so you don’t have to go looking.

1. This what is saying on the bag 28 days satisfaction guarantee feeding the Oscar way. If you do not see a difference in your dog or not satisfied in 28 days they will guarantee to give you your money back.

2. Wheat Gluten Free and a single meat protein source ( Fish ). Reduces the rick and helps to cure skin and digestive allergies to food ingredients.

3. Crunchy and concentrated. Keeps teeth clean, gums firm, good dental care with less food.

4. Extra Biotin, Vitamin E and A and Omega 6 Fatty acids. Glossy coat and improved skin condition.

5. 27% Meat and fat content. Strong Fish flavor, very tasty.

So when your next out buying your dog dried food just have a look on the bag and if there’s fuck all telling you what’s in that bag DON’T BUY IT, look for Wheat & Gluten Free food, that’s our advise to you all.

Hair Loss in Staffords II

Hair Loss. There are causes of hair loss in Stafford's. Demodectic mange, caused by a mite, is the most serious and requires veterinary advice. Hormonal disturbances in bitches may produce a thinning of the coat and it will depend on its extent if further action is required. If hair loss is accompanied by reddening of the skin or pustular lesions then you must consult you vet as these may indicate bacterial or fungal infection.

Stafford's may develop a small bald patch about the size of a 5p piece on their heads around the time of teething. Unless the patch is red or pustular, this is usually nothing to worry about and the hair will grow back about twelve months old. Owners should simply monitor the situation and only seek veterinary advice if matters get worse or do not clear up when over one year.

1. Public Health

Toxocara species of roundworms are very common in both dogs and cats and in rare instances can cause illness in people, especially children. Certain types of tapeworm which have part of their life-cycle in dogs and cats also can be very

DANGEROUS TO PEOPLE.

2. Pet Health

Virtually all puppies are born with roundworms or pick them up shortly afterwards, from the Bitchs milk. Heavily infested puppies are underweight, anemic and sick, with poor coats and pot bellies and can even die of heart failure and anemia. Older dogs may not show obvious symptoms of roundworm infestation but may be underweight with a poor coat and gastrointestinal symptoms. Dogs infested with tapeworms may show similar symptoms or none at all. Adult dead roundworms may be passed in the motions, but are usually not obvious. Tapeworm segments tend to be expelled from the anus independent of defecation, and may crawl around for a short while before dying and releasing eggs. The commonest tapeworms of dogs and cats have part of their life-cycle in the flea.

Cats are similarly affected by worms; though they are less likely to be born with roundworms they can be infected from the milk shortly after birth.

Treatment

Fortunately, treatment and prevention of worm infestation and transfer is now very simple. feces should always be picked up and disposed of, whether on your private property or in public areas.

The wormers that our local vets prescribes to our dogs are panacea, mainly used for treatment of roundworms in your young animals, and Drontal which kills all the species of worms affecting dogs and cats in this country. They recommend treatment of puppies and kittens at mouthy intervals until 12 weeks and then 3-monthly from 6 months. Concurrent use of a flea treatment prevents tapeworms finding a secondary host.

Getting your dog vaccinated

It is strongly recommended that all owners get their dogs fully vaccinated within 8-10 weeks old. because basically they could die from various infectious diseases. ive come across people that think that they don’t have to have there dog vaccinated. Ive had them say to me they don’t need there jabs there as hard as nails. that’s a load off old bull. Yes they do... I must admit I was one of them people, back in the 1983 I had a cross staff English she was a lovely Bitch. she was called Ziggy, white all over, had a lovely temperament, she died of parvo at the foot of my bed. and that’s not very nice thing to see. Watching your dog die because I couldn’t be bothered to get her jabs done. I was gutted Big Time. Well ever since that day ive mad sure that ive always had my dogs vaccinated, and had there boosters jabs aswell. I learnt my lesson !!!.

Once they get them infectious diseases like Parvo and Distemper there’s no coming back for them poor animals. They just melt away, three to four days tops. that’s all they last for then die. So don’t be a plank like I was and not get them vaccinated. Do the right thing and get them Vaccinated Please.

Exercising your dog regular

Keeping your dog fit Is the best thing you can do for him or her and your self. regular walks and runs will not only keep your dog fit but happy aswell. This type of dog has got to have a good run around because it helps get rid of their frustrations. being shut up in the house or kennels gets them all bottled up and if you got fore dogs like us you don’t need them to kick off just as your on your way out the door. we’ve learnt to take two at a time now. we are lucky really, we live right on top of a two acre field. The dogs love it over there they can run around till they’ve had enough. if you not so lucky to have a field near you. you can use a good tread mill to build your dog up aswell. and if you’ve not got any of the above you will have to do it the old fashion way and walk him or her on a lead

Or you can make your self a Flirt Pole. Its just a long pole with a bit of spring in it Bamboo is the best as it goes and on the end of it put a tea towel or an old rag. they love it. You just move the pole up and down side to side. and all they want to do is grab what’s on the end of the pole. just do that for about 20 to 30 minutes a day and that’s just as good as a good run around in a field. Or you can tie a old tyre or rope to your fence or wall or some where they can pull it about. just use your initiative. Remember they got to get rid of there frustrations some how.

Home From Home

Also if you own a Stafford that has been moved from home to home that’s not Healthy or mentally good for them at all. it could result in having a difficult time in settling him or her in to there new environment.... I agree with Heidi at www.cosmos-staffords.co.uk on what she’s got to say a bout rehoming. Heidi Quotes. It is important to vet the suitability of the potential owners. as a dog lover go with your gut instincts as it is very difficult and often CRUEL to rehome a Stafford as their natural character is based on trust and loyalty.

Regular check ups with your vets

Take your dog regular to you local vets. but not that regular they cost to much. Get you local vet to Give him or her a good check up. Worm him or her. get there boosters done if needed. Get there eyes and eras checked out. Check for mites and ticks.

The information provided on these pages is intended as a guide only. Should you have any cause for concern with your dog you must always seek professional advice from your veterinary surgeon .
