Just racially i was ask buy Jackie & Kevin why did there bitch kill her young ? this was the e-mail we received on the 10th April 2008.
Hi there long time no speck Jackie and Kevin we bought our Ellas Blue Bitch AKA Indie from you a few years ago. Last night Indie had four puppies! Unfortunately it didn’t go quite to plan. She savaged two and one she ate one the other is fighting but we have had to take them away from her. To say the least, we were completely unprepared for this and would very much appreciate your advice!. Your time and advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you ever so, Jackie and Kevin.

I found a write up on this type of behaviour, why dose a bitch do this?.
its obviously an extremely upsetting situation for you however, please don’t let this detract from your opinion of her as a real sweetie, since problems can arise despite a good temperament. When bitch’s kill their young its called infanticide and normally this doesn’t occur unless there’s something wrong with a pup, or if the bitch’s health is poor, or the environment is too stressful for her to cope.
Normally the birthing process and the exposure to the sight, smell and taste of the newly born pups triggers the essential hormonal changes that lead to good maternal instincts. Some bitch’s seem to be dysfunctional and don’t display these instincts and, in cases where a caesarean has been carried out, the natural process has been disrupted and the bonding process may not occur.
This can lead to apparently abnormal behaviour when pups are abandoned or killed. There’s no definite answer to say how your bitch will respond next time, though its always best to make sure a bitch feels as relaxed as possible and is in tip top condition. Allow her access to the puppies and ,if possible, allow her to lick and clean them to begin the bonding process. Caesareans in Staffords and most Terriers is common so close supervision will be necessary until mother and pups have settled well and have bonded.
