The Fight Between Ch Psycho & Ch Stormer

This match was reported to have taken place somewhere in the Irish Republic during the mid-1980's

ricky bs ch PsychoThe agreed weight was 43lbs. Some £6000 is claimed to have been staked on the match, which at the time was the largest sum placed on such an event anywhere in the UK. The match was reported by the American Sporting Dog Journal and the British based Pit Bull News.

"Psycho" was the first to weigh in at 40 1/4lbs followed by "Stormer" at 42 1/2lbs. "Psycho" was the slightly taller of the two dogs.

Ten minutes later and the handlers are in the pit with their dogs and ready to go. The referee calls "Pit" and "Psycho" shoots straight across to meet "Stormer", who turns away, but when "Psycho" hits him goes straight into battle. The turn had been called, so as soon as the dogs were out of holds, a pick up was allowed. The atmosphere was electric, with the Irish supporters convinced they were seeing a cur and that the "Stormer" dog would quit.

psycho good picFive minutes gone and both dogs were working hard trying to gain an advantage, "Psycho" looking for the legs and chest with "Stormer" holding him out. At eleven minutes, the dogs came loose and "Psycho"s handler got a handle on him, "Stormer" to run his scratch. He shoots across the pit and knocks "Psycho" into the corner, the English contingent cheer and the match goes on. Another handle a few minutes later, and across goes "Psycho" in fine style. With twenty minutes gone "Stormer" is looking the stronger dog, having taken a chest hold and shaking it out, while "Psycho" is working hard to get him off.

By the half hour mark it's become a scratching match, both dogs having ran three each. At the thirty three minute mark "Stormer" ran his fourth, this time taking "Psycho" straight out of his handlers hands and into the pit wall. "Stormer" was getting on top by the forty minute mark and is scratching harder than ever. "Psycho" is doing his best to even things up, coming on top occasionally, but his opponent is doing the damage.

At forty eight minutes both dogs have run six scratches each, "Stormer" has a muzzle hold and was working it hard, "Psycho" has him off at fifty four minutes when his handler got in for a handle with "Psycho" to go. On the command "Pit" "Psycho" hesitates momentarily before taking the fight straight to "Stormer". There's a rousing cheer from his supporters, but the fight now seems to be slipping away from him, with "Stormer" stepping up a gear and seeming to sense that the end was near.

From the fifty five minute mark "Stormer" did it all, but "Psycho" never quit. At an hour and a minute "Stormer" runs his eighth scratch and was on a down dog, as he hits "Psycho" and folds him into his corner. At one hour and three a handle is made with "Psycho" to go. Looking very tired, he is sportingly picked up by his handler and concedes the match. The contest was won and lost in a true sporting manner, a shame that in the end one of these fine animals had to lose. After the match, the referee, an American Pit Bull Terrier breeder by the name of Boston Blackie, is reported to have said about "Psycho" that if he were to have one of these dogs he'd have one out of him. In all his previous campaigning "Psycho" had put in around five hours in the pit, which goes to show what a good dog he was and how good a dog his opponent "Stormer" was

End

Ive managed to find just a few of the Legendary Ch Stormer. As you can see the quality of the the pictures are not that grate Ive had to brighten the chstormerpictures up, That’s the best I can get them

As we’ve said all through this web site of ours we do not condone any fighting sports at all in any way or form. This is what has happened in the past, and im a complete nut on dog history on how they come about right up to what these poor dogs was used for. From a working dog in the fields of Ireland to a fighting dog of to day. Who they was breed with what lines do they come from, where they a fighting dog or just a good old working dog on the farms, that was used for rating or Badger hunting ect ect.

It has taken me over 10 years of finding information on the Irish dogs of today and its taken me 3 years to put all that ive found on to our website. There is one book you just might like to read up on and that’s  Shaun Barkers book Staffordshire Bull Terriers English & Irish www.sbtfun.com its very good reading, also a very good web site for books info well just have a look.

What with all the bad publicity with the news p ch_stormer2[1]apers and the RSPCA about dogs to be a pit bull type, what dose that acutely mean then ! because as you can see Stormer was a crossCh_stormer Stafford English Bull Terrier. I thought that a cross between an Mastiff my be a Bull dog of some type crossed with a Stafford was a pit bull !. Any way that’s what i think. My be some one out there might think different on what makes a pit bull dog !.

Please do not think that we are all up for dog fighting, i think that its a shitty sport.
