The Flynn Strain

Regarded as one of the gamest of the Stafford lines the Flynn Strain certainly has had its share of good dogs worthy of admiration. It all started with two brothers who liked the game trial dogs such as the Wheaten Terriers and the Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

Over a period of time they obtained and bred some of their own versions, of how a game dog should be and it grew to be more than a few so it formed a Strain known as the Evergreen and Faranee stock. The Main foundation dogs included some of the dogs you will find in the Northford/Psycho line's background. Dogs like Hegarty's Black Tiger, Cork Rose, Mutton Skull and a dog of doubtful background, but known to be a hell of a worker, the mysterious "Lynchahaun".

FARANEE_BOY[1]It was said that the Lynchahaun dog was stolen in England by a seaman who sold him to a priest named F. Jordan in Ireland. It was also said that the children in his parish tormented this priest so I guess he probably thought that the children would take to the dog and stop tormenting him. I guess the dog in the end made the tormenting stop, because when the children saw this dog they were quick on setting their dogs on him, but Lynchahaun would go ballistic and kill any dog they set on him and before to long the priest was let alone. This was probably heard about in the parish and since the dogs name appears behind a great many of the dogs from that area I guess it is safe to assume that someone thought he would be worth taking their bitch to.

This dog was the Sire to many great Trial dogs, some of which are in the background of the Flynn dogs. He was the Sire to Moneys Pet, who was mated to Cork Rose's brother Faranee Lad. This mating produced two pups that later became known as Faranee boy and Evergreen Dolly.

Faranee Boy

BARNEY[1]Jerome's Barney

These were then mated to give Evergreen Patsy, a very good bitch, which was put to Gerry Allen's Geronimo dog. A lot of thought has gone into this breeding and it gave excellent results. Evergreen Patsy was also put to Barney, a staff/ EBT cross and Wolf Island Boy, which both appears in the pedigree of the Irish Jack dog, which is mentioned in the Dublin Red Strain section.

The Flynn brothers were also involved in some of the breeding behind Ch. Psycho, such as Evergreen ORDAYS-LEO[1]Tiny Peggy or Doneal Flynn's PADDY_OF_PLYMOUTH[1]Old Peggy. The mating between Geronimo and Evergreen Patsy was a well thought out breeding as was breeding her back to her Sire Faranee Boy, which resulted in Max who was sent to Underwood in England.

When bred to Geronimo it resulted in Paddy, Leo and Candy. Paddy and Candy were sent to Peter Western in England and Leo ended up with Joe    Orday in the U.S.A.

With these dogs now in England,

a tight breeding program began. When Max was put to his half sister Candy, they produced Judy and Blue AKA Springview's Wolf. Judy was in turn put to Paddy, which resulted in Abby of Plymouth AKA Springview's Abby, Floyd of Plymouth, Bess of Plymouth and Slade of Plymouth.

  SPRINGVIEWS_ABBY[1]                         JUDY_OF_PLYMOUTH[1]              springviews-wolf[1]

Floyd were put to his sister Bess and produced Cass of Plymouth and Limmerick Kennels Nelson. One of his matches were reported as following:

The Potman's Blue Vs. Limerick Kennels Nelson.SCOTSMANS_MAX2[1]

Blue, Sired by Ch. Smuggler comes in at 43 lb. Nelson a Flynn bred dog comes in at 39 lb.
Fast pace with Blue on the shoulder, Nelson on the head and neck.
Blue works the chest and shoulder most of the time and pushes Nelson about.
Nelson is picked up at 21 minutes, and is counted out on his courtesy scratch.
Winner Blue 21 minutes.

Cass was put to a dog called Belcher of Taunton, out of Ch. Molly and Springview's Wolf, which produced two large dogs, Kane and Diablo. Kane was said to be no good, but Diablo was said to have done well in a 30 minutes roll with an APBT called

Scotsman's Max.

Slade of Plymouth

was said to be a very game bitch, rolled into many dogs Staffords and APBT's, showing deep gameness. She was bred back to her father Paddy producing Peggy and Hooker. Peggy was later put to Springview's Wolf, producing two sons, Sonny and Jock.

Hooker was put to Moonshine, Josh and Irish Jack, which gave good results.

SLADE_OF_PLYMOUTH[1]     Hooker[1]

rose-moonshine-hooker[1]         MEG-HOOKER-JOSH[1]

Paddy of Plymouth

was said to have won 7 matches in England and when put to a bitch from Rapparee lines called Lucky PADDY_OF_PLYMOUTH[1]they produced a hell ofch-molly[1] a bitch called Molly. Ch.Molly was said to have won as much as 6 matches, but some was off the chain matches and not reported contract matches. Whatever the case may be she was a very game bitch.

Since this mating was a total outcross it makes total sense that she was bred back to Springview's Wolf, making the pups ¾ Flynn ¼ Rapparee. She was however also bred to the Dublin Red Strain dog Russell's Red Joe, and the Psycho Strain dog Farmer Boys Jocko. Molly was bred back to Wolf on different occasions, producing Belcher of Taunton, Trap, Twister, Vicci, Rhona and Jed.

  Belcher[1]Belcher of Taunton

was matched against a Stafford/APBT cross in his first match and was picked up game in 1 hour and 31 minutes due to a re-broken leg. It was said that when he was a young dog he was kicked in the leg by a cow with the result that the leg was broken. Nevertheless he was put to his dam Molly, Springview's Abby, Cass of Plymouth and Sophie out of Kizzy and Milo.

SA_TWISTER[1]Twister

was said to be a result of the second mating of Wolf and Molly and it was said that shetrap-ad[1] did well against the Badgers. She was put across Sylas, out of Lee's Lightfoot by Johnson and threw some healthy pups. One bitch ended up in Sweden, where she was registered under a fake name and is now behind some show stock over there.

Thanks to City Dude for scanning and sending the ad

Trap was said to be a very game dog and when put to his daughter Fly out of Flynn (Belcher x Sophie) it resulted in Taz and Tinker. Trap was also put to Joe's Bella (Jocko x Beanie II), producing pats-molly[1]Joe's Slade, which was mated with her half brother Taz  producing City Dude's TRAP_BLUE_WOLF_X_CH_MOLLY[1]Molly, a very nice looking bitch.

Vicci was a litter sister to Belcher and it was said that she did very well against the badger, but that she never really proved herself against other dogs. It was said that she also was mated to Diablo.

SPRINGVIEW'S20RHONA[2][1]I don't have any info on what happened with Rona and Jed, but there are still a few dogs of this line around. This line never reached the popularity like the Dublin Red and the Northford/Psycho line did, but nevertheless they are highly regarded among the fancy.

The articles on this page was done buy someone else not by me. I would just like to thank him for having the balls to put them on the web. ive found these articles a good few years ago and was humming and harring ether to put them on the site. Its one of the best bit of history that ive found and explains how and who’s dogs are breed with who. This just what im talking about long lost history about these type of dogs. We all know what they was used for and i must say that’s just not my thing. What i do like is the history on the dogs, fro right back to the wolf to the history of today. Some of you might be offended by these articles but as i said its all about history. Ive had a few people sent in little write ups of there dogs and made a page up just for them its called Back in the day B,I,T,D Click here
